Search for a new Executive Director

The Southside Community Center announces a search for a new Executive Director. Our current ED, Nydia Boyd has dedicated the last two years to setting Southside on a course of stability and success. We wish Director Boyd the best as she embarks on the next stage of her artistic career. Ms. Boyd will be with us until the end of May 2019. In our 86th year as a core organization in Ithaca, New York we are excited to continue our transformative work with the right candidate.

 

The Southside Community Center, Inc. in Ithaca, NY is seeking an Executive Director to begin June 1, 2019.

Position Summary The Executive Director (ED) serves as the primary spokesperson of the agency and is responsible for developing ongoing, cooperative and productive relations with other community agencies for the purposes of providing collaborative programming. The ED holds the Southside Community Center vision and orchestrates day-to-day operations. Serving as the catalyst, the ED pays homage to the agencies current purpose while honoring the path of the organization’s origin illustrated in its mission.

Since its incorporation in 1934, the Southside Community Center, Inc., continues to affirm, empower, and foster the development of self-pride among the African-American citizens of greater Ithaca. Through forums and activities in education, recreation, political and social awareness, the Southside Community Center is a community resource center. We serve as a vehicle to develop an appreciation for the contributions and presence of those peoples of African descent in the greater Ithaca community and in the larger world community.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors Degree and four (4) years of full-time paid administrative or supervisory experience working with youth, adults and/or families in a community, human service or recreation program, an educational environment or similar organization experience. OR Master’s Degree and two (2) years of full-time paid administrative or supervisory experience working with youth, adults and/or families in a community, human service or recreation program, an educational environment or similar organization; preferred Administrative and Early Childhood or Education degrees and or coursework.
