Southside Community Center Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tammy Butler to serve as the next executive director of Southside Community Center. Dr. Butler brings more than 10 years of nonprofit experience, a strong leadership track record, extensive expertise in organizational development, donor relations, operations and fiscal management to the executive director role at Southside Community Center.
Dr. Butler has an accomplished career of service to women and families that spans more than 10 years in the field of human services, including as a consultant, trainer and presenter about building successful collaborations, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.
In 2004, Dr. Tammy Butler founded and led Samaritan Center of Excellence, an organization that delivers evidence-based programming, research, education and training focused on the critical issues impacting women and families. There, she accelerated the mission, maintained a strong advocacy and professional voice in the Rochester, New York community, engaged marginalized communities, and helped strengthen the organization’s infrastructure.
In 2009, as a Project Director, she first used her organizational leadership expertise to provide strategic oversight of a peer-run program for integrated prevention, treatment, and substance use disorder services in Rochester, NY and then, in 2015, as a Project Manager for Finger Lakes Performing Provider System, Inc. to promote collaborations between systems (e.g. medical, mental and substance abuse, schools, government agencies, employers, and law enforcement) that may not interact on a regular basis.

Honors bestowed upon Dr. Butler include recognition by The Links, Incorporated, Rochester, NY Chapter -2019 Health and Human Services Award and the Rochester Women’s Network in Rochester, NY nomination for the 2018 Women Inspiring Women Award (the “prestigious” Award) for her social justice, leadership, and commitment to service work in the Rochester, NY community.
Tammy received her undergraduate degree from SUNY Brockport, her M.S. in Organizational Management from Roberts Wesleyan College, and her Ed.D in Executive Leadership from St. John Fisher College. She is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and resides in Ithaca, NY.
